Overview
This role supports 7–14 craft brewery clients by leading outsourced, accrual-based accounting engagements. The position is full-time and 100% remote, with no timesheets or hour tracking.
Responsibilities
- Lead the monthly close for 7–14 brewery clients, including:
- QuickBooks Online (QBO)
- Reconciliations and accruals
- Payroll
- Inventory
- Final review
- Serve as the primary accounting point of contact for your clients, responding to questions and providing high-level client service.
- Coordinate with Accounting Associates who handle much of the recurring bookkeeping.
- Prepare and file sales and excise tax for a subset of clients.
- Partner with Compliance, Consulting, and Tax teams to ensure they have what they need from your work.
Growth Path
Accountants are hired with the goal of developing into brewery accounting specialists:
- Level 1: Brewery Accounting Foundation
- Manage a mix of bookkeeping and accounting work
- Build productive client relationships as the main accounting contact
- Develop brewery-specific accounting knowledge and technical competency
- Level 2: Brewery Accounting Competence
- Transition to primarily close and compliance work
- Build solid processes with Associates (who handle most recurring bookkeeping)
- Execute brewery-specific work and client communication with minimal support
- Provide feedback to improve accounting processes
- Level 3: Brewery Accounting Mastery
- Focus mainly on higher-level accounting and compliance
- Independently handle complex client communication and troubleshooting
- Collaborate closely with Associates and Compliance/Consulting/Tax teams
- Mentor new hires and drive process improvements across the team
How Success Is Measured
- Client books are consistently accurate and delivered on time.
- The Accounting Manager rarely needs to step in to resolve issues.
- You reach and maintain your target client book (number and mix of clients).
- Clients trust you as their go-to accounting contact and provide positive feedback.
Requirements
- 2+ years of full-cycle, accrual-based accounting experience managing multiple clients or entities.
- Strong proficiency with QuickBooks Online; experience with Bill.com is a plus.
- Ability to work effectively in a remote environment (prior remote experience helpful but not required).
- Reliable internet, a quiet setup for video calls, and availability during normal business hours (9–5, Monday–Friday).
- Must be based in the U.S. and legally authorized to work in the U.S.
Preferred Qualifications
- Public firm, outsourced accounting, or similar experience.
- Experience with tools such as Square, Toast, Gusto, Podio, or Asana.
Compensation & Benefits
- Base Salary: $64,000–$73,000 per year (based on skills and experience)
- Production Bonus: Typically $2,500 to $10,000 per year, paid out monthly
- Total Compensation Potential: $64,000–$83,000 per year (base salary + bonus)
