Overview
This role involves serving as an Accountant II responsible for maintaining the integrity of financial records by preparing and reviewing general ledger month-end journal entries in accordance with US GAAP standards. The position requires expertise in healthcare-specific accounting issues across various functional areas such as Cash, Fixed Assets, Corporate, Payroll, and Investments. The accountant will analyze financial data, ensure proper documentation, provide variance explanations, and collaborate with accounting leaders and cross-functional teams to support month-end closing, audits, and process improvements.
Responsibilities
- Prepare accurate and complete month-end journal entries aligned with US GAAP, ensuring all supporting documentation is attached and properly filed.
- Conduct variance analysis on assigned accounts by comparing actual results to budget and trends, providing clear explanations to accounting leads and managers.
- Perform monthly balance sheet reconciliations for assigned functional areas, proactively identifying and resolving discrepancies.
- Evaluate the source and appropriateness of documentation supporting journal entries, following up as needed to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Develop estimates and financial analyses based on historical data to support journal entries when necessary.
- Assist with internal and external audit preparations, including researching general ledger transactions and reviewing documentation.
- Collaborate with other teams across the organization to fulfill information requests and support financial reporting activities.
- Participate in process improvement initiatives to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of accounting procedures.
- Stay informed of healthcare industry accounting issues and updates to US GAAP, pursuing opportunities for professional development.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or a related field.
- Minimum of two years of accounting experience, preferably with healthcare accounting exposure.
- Familiarity with US GAAP standards.
- Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and excellent communication abilities.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks effectively, and collaborate within a team environment.
- Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional certifications such as CPA are highly desirable; assistance in obtaining licensure is available.
