Overview

The Staff Accountant supports the Fleet accounting team by managing all aspects of the full cycle accounting process. This includes preparing journal entries during month-end close, preparing variance explanations, performing account reconciliations, and following up to resolve issues. The role involves cross-training to provide backup within the department and collaborating with other finance and business teams as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare monthly account reconciliations and clear reconciling items.
  • Prepare journal entries and accruals during month-end closings.
  • Collaborate with operating groups to research and explain variances to forecast and budget.
  • Assist management in preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual deliverables submitted to corporate.
  • Support management in preparing schedules for internal and external auditors.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Collaborate with both shoreside and shipboard teams.
  • Analyze financial data that may contain inconsistencies or unexpected variances.
  • Research underlying transactions, reconcile discrepancies across multiple systems, and apply accounting judgment.
  • Investigate issues beyond routine procedures and propose corrective actions with clear documentation.
  • Ensure accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of financial information used by operations, FP&A, leadership, and auditors.
  • Uphold accounting standards through consistent application of principles, proper documentation, and adherence to internal controls.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of or ability to learn Oracle Financials or other related financial software.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, with intermediate Excel skills including pivot tables and lookup functions.
  • Knowledge of accrual-based accounting.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, team-based environment.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated sense of urgency in completing assignments.
  • Flexibility to adapt in a dynamic environment.
  • Ability to prioritize workloads and meet tight deadlines.
  • Personal integrity and respect for all individuals.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in public or private accounting, including full-cycle accounting, month-end closing, and variance analysis.

Work Conditions

  • Primarily work in a climate-controlled environment with minimal safety or health hazards.
  • Must be able to remain stationary at a desk and/or computer for extended periods.
  • This is a remote position allowing full-time work from home.
  • May require regular travel to headquarters in Miami, FL for in-office collaboration.
  • Candidate sourcing focuses on remote hubs in Orlando, Tampa, Atlanta, Houston, and Dallas.
  • Candidates outside these hubs must reside in one of the following U.S. states: FL, GA, TX, or NC.
