Overview
The organization is seeking an Accounting Manager to own core accounting operations, manage the close process, and lead financial reporting for a growing technology business. This role applies US GAAP across revenue, expenses, accruals, leases, fixed assets, and equity transactions while maintaining accurate, audit-ready financial records.
The position is based in Chicago, IL and operates remotely.
Responsibilities
- Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual close, including journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, flux analysis, and close reporting
- Prepare and review US GAAP financial statements, management schedules, and supporting disclosures for SEC reporting requirements
- Own SOX control execution, documentation, testing support, remediation tracking, and evidence collection across accounting processes
- Manage accounting for revenue, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, leases, equity compensation, intercompany activity, and other complex transactions
- Maintain the chart of accounts and accounting policies; document technical accounting conclusions and update procedures as the business evolves
- Partner with external auditors, tax advisors, FP&A, legal, and operations to resolve audit requests, improve data quality, and support forecasting and planning
- Improve accounting workflows and reporting through ERP systems, Excel or Google Sheets, and close-management and BI tools
Requirements
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 2+ years managing close or general ledger processes
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- Strong working knowledge of US GAAP, SOX controls, SEC reporting requirements, and audit processes
- Hands-on experience with ERP platforms such as NetSuite, Oracle, or SAP
- Advanced Excel or Google Sheets skills
- Experience preparing account reconciliations, flux analysis, technical accounting memos, financial statements, and audit support schedules
- Clear communicator with strong organization and the ability to manage deadlines across multiple stakeholders in a remote environment
Preferred Qualifications
- CPA certification or active pursuit strongly preferred
- Experience in a public or pre-IPO technology company
- Familiarity with ASC 606 and ASC 842
- Experience with close-management or BI tools
