Overview

The organization is seeking an Accounting Specialist 2 to join the Accounts Payable Unit within the Business & Finance, Mission Partners Division. This role supports agency payments and financial processes to help protect and enhance public health and the environment in Arizona through effective financial management.

Salary: $20.00 - $22.00 hourly

Grade: 18

This position is available for full-time remote work within Arizona, including virtual office arrangements.

Responsibilities

  • Perform medium difficulty accounting tasks supporting agency payment processes.
  • Review and submit invoice payments using the Arizona Procurement Portal (APP) and Arizona Financial System (AZ360).
  • Create encumbrance documents and transfers within AZ360.
  • Manage and research vendor accounts, including reconciliation and profile updates.
  • Collaborate with the Purchasing team to facilitate invoice payments.
  • Ensure accuracy and quality of work products and meet all deadlines.
  • Prepare, verify, analyze, and process financial invoice payments, contract payments, refund expenditures, encumbrances, agency transfers, and related activities.
  • Utilize two-way and three-way matching for payment oversight and entry, including determining appropriate funding codes.
  • Address issues proactively using initiative, collaboration, and management skills to resolve root causes.
  • Maintain current knowledge of agency and statewide policies and complete required training.

Knowledge:

  • Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Government accounting principles, practices, concepts, methods, and techniques.
  • Internal control structures and fiscal management.
  • Arizona Revised Statutes (ARS) related to finances.
  • State of Arizona Accounting Manual (SAAM).
  • Arizona Procurement Portal (APP) and AZ360 Financial system.
  • Confidentiality principles.
  • Microsoft Office and G-Suite/Workplace applications.

Preferred Qualifications

  • One year of accounting experience in purchasing, accounting, data processing, or related activities.
  • Proficiency with the Arizona Procurement Portal for invoice oversight and entry.
  • High School Diploma or GED; 2- or 4-year degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business preferred.

Pre-Employment Requirements
