Overview
This opportunity involves leading the Accounts Payable Unit within a public service organization focused on environmental protection. Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the Accounts Payable Unit to ensure timely, accurate, and compliant financial transactions
- Maintain data integrity across financial systems and oversee agency-wide travel processes
- Manage vendor payments, training payments, purchasing cards, and capital asset reconciliation
- Serve as the agency's point of contact for financial systems and develop fiscal policies and procedures
- Provide responsive customer service to agency management
- Support year-end financial closing activities
Requirements
- Minimum of eight (8) years of experience in state accounting, auditing, or budgeting, including at least three (3) years in a supervisory role
- Advanced knowledge of state accounting systems, laws, policies, and procedures
- Strong communication skills to clearly explain financial information to all levels of management
- Ability to analyze processes for improvements and manage workloads effectively
- Education in a financial-related field or relevant certifications such as CPA, CIA, or CGFM
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of federal grant management and cash management
- Understanding of federal and state laws regarding employee compensation
- Familiarity with state and federal contracting and procurement laws
- Skills in designing expenditure and revenue codes for reporting
- Experience with continuous improvement methodologies such as Lean
