Overview

A well-established heavy civil construction firm headquartered in Houston, TX, is seeking an Accounts Payable Specialist to join their expanding finance team. The organization has delivered over $2.8 billion in infrastructure projects across the Southern United States since 1987, specializing in highways, bridges, water systems, and large-scale site development.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the full accounts payable cycle, including invoice processing, approvals, and payment execution
  • Ensure timely and accurate payments to vendors, subcontractors, and service providers
  • Maintain and strengthen vendor relationships by resolving discrepancies and payment issues efficiently
  • Implement and monitor internal controls to ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements
  • Review and approve high-value or complex invoices and payment batches
  • Coordinate with procurement and project teams to validate contract terms, pricing, and payment schedules
  • Reconcile vendor statements and maintain proper documentation and recordkeeping
  • Support month-end and year-end close processes related to accounts payable
  • Assist with audits by providing necessary documentation and responding to auditor inquiries
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounts payable processes, systems, and efficiencies
  • Lead, train, and mentor accounts payable staff

Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of accounts payable processes, invoice management, and payment controls
  • Experience with accounting systems and ERP platforms
  • Solid understanding of financial controls and compliance requirements
  • Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and time management skills
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for vendor and internal coordination
  • Proven leadership experience managing or supervising accounts payable teams
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred
  • Experience in construction, infrastructure, or project-based industries is a plus
