Overview
This role is part of the Finance & Accounting team and provides hands-on leadership for comprehensive program and financial accounting for multiple government contracts within the Aerospace Division. Responsibilities include ensuring fiscal compliance, accurate program costing, strong internal controls, and timely reporting in accordance with Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR), Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement (DFARS), Cost Accounting Standards (CAS), and company policies.
Responsibilities
- Oversee monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes for assigned government programs, ensuring accurate financial reporting, cost allocation, and revenue recognition (ASC 606).
- Supervise and mentor accounting staff responsible for program financials and audit support.
- Prepare, review, and approve complex journal entries, account reconciliations, and schedules; ensure adherence to FAR/DFARS and CAS.
- Serve as the primary financial liaison for DCAA/DCMA auditors; coordinate audit preparation, respond to audit requests, and resolve findings.
- Collaborate with program managers, contracts, supply chain, and executive leadership on program performance, funding requirements, and contract compliance.
- Oversee timekeeping, labor distribution, and cost segregation processes to maintain accounting integrity and ongoing audit readiness.
- Assist with policy and procedure development to strengthen internal controls and the compliance framework.
- Support and lead ERP/accounting system implementations and process enhancements (preferably SAP S4 Hanna).
- Participate in budget development, forecasting, and trending analyses for government-funded programs.
- Conduct ad-hoc analysis and reporting to support program profitability and financial stewardship.
- Coordinate preparation of financial data for external and internal audits.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related discipline; or an equivalent combination of education and experience that provides comparable knowledge and job skills. (One-year related experience may be substituted for one year of education, if degree is required.)
- Experience:
- Minimum of 8 years of accounting and finance experience.
- Experience managing or supporting month-end and year-end close processes, general ledger maintenance, and account reconciliations.
- Experience with job costing, project accounting, or other allocation-based financial processes (government contracting experience a plus but not required).
- Experience preparing internal and external financial statements and supporting documentation.
- Experience implementing and maintaining internal controls and supporting audit readiness.
- Experience working with cross-functional teams to ensure accurate financial data and compliance with company policies.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in accounting, finance, or related discipline.
- CPA.
- Experience supporting major DoD, NASA, or other federal agency contracts.
- Prior Big 4 or public accounting firm experience.
- Working knowledge of revenue recognition (ASC 606) and program EVMS reporting.
- Exposure to SOX/internal controls and process improvement initiatives.
- Deep knowledge of FAR, DFARS, CAS, and DCAA/contract audit procedures.

- Demonstrated experience mentoring and supervising accounting staff.
- Proven ability to multi-task and thrive in a dynamic, deadline-driven environment.
- U.S. Citizenship required.
- Active security clearance or ability to obtain is a plus.
Software/Technology
- Proficient with ERP/accounting software (Deltek Costpoint, Unanet, SAP, or similar) and advanced Excel.
- Ability to work with company-issued general office equipment.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary range: USD $150,000 - 220,000
- Starting pay will be based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions.
