Overview

This role involves performing a variety of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) service authorization administration and maintenance activities. The Authorizations Specialist will coordinate and complete special projects and assigned duties related to insurance authorizations and billing support.

This is a remote position with a preference for candidates residing in Texas. The position is salaried, non-exempt, with an annual salary range of $45,000 to $50,000.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor expiring contracts or authorizations and request renewals with insurance carriers
  • Enter insurance authorizations into the billing system
  • Communicate with Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs) to update treatment plans and set due dates for authorization materials
  • Submit referrals to physicians for signature
  • Complete attendance logs as required by payors
  • Oversee the approval process to ensure all authorizations are approved by insurance companies
  • Proactively communicate with insurance companies to confirm client authorizations for scheduled services
  • Identify and report trends and issues related to prior authorizations, billing, and reimbursement
  • Verify completeness and accuracy of all documentation
  • Accept and implement feedback, adapting to new or modified policies and procedures
  • Utilize effective time management skills to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Adhere to organizational policies, procedures, and protocols
  • Maintain billing department voicemail and email accounts
  • Work from assigned job location during standard business hours
  • Attend required meetings
  • Complete other projects and duties as assigned
  • Conduct benefit and eligibility checks on new and existing clients
  • Monitor unconverted sessions and follow up with clinical teams to ensure conversion
  • Assist clinical teams with unlocking session notes and attaching addendums as needed

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred
  • Fluent in spoken and written English
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to adapt to a changing environment
  • Ability to accept feedback and make corrective actions
  • Ability to work effectively on a team
  • Willingness to learn and implement new skills
