Overview
The Billing Specialist III is responsible for supporting revenue cycle activities by applying knowledge of insurance regulations, health insurance contracts, medical coding, and bookkeeping. Key duties include medical coding, insurance verification, maintaining accurate information in the practice management system, preparing deposits, collecting and posting payments, submitting claims, and following up on accounts.
Note: Candidates residing in California, Hawaii, or Alaska are not eligible for this position.
The base pay range for this role is $18.17 to $29.04 per hour, with the final offer based on skills, experience, and qualifications. This position is eligible for a quarterly bonus, which is discretionary and based on company and individual performance.
Responsibilities
- Maintain the practice management system by entering accurate data, verifying and updating insurance and claims information, handling carrier correspondence, managing Explanation of Benefits (EOBs), and keying payments received.
- Prepare, review, submit, and follow up on clean claims to various companies and individuals.
- Collect, post, and manage patient account payments.
- Investigate rejected claims to determine reasons for denials and correct claims accordingly.
- Facilitate timely payment of invoices by sending patient invoices, billing reminders, and making collection calls on outstanding balances as directed.
- Review and provide weekly and monthly revenue cycle management (RCM) reports, including productivity and financial reports, and complete necessary action steps.
- Adhere to HIPAA guidelines when accessing and sharing patient information.
- Maintain patient and business confidentiality.
- Provide timely and professional customer service by verifying discrepancies, resolving patient billing issues, and answering questions from patients, facility staff, and third-party vendors.
- Support additional coding, billing, and practice management projects as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of 5 years of billing experience.
- At least 3 years of healthcare experience preferred.
- Knowledge of revenue cycle processes, medical insurance, and general accounting principles.
- High degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines simultaneously, identify and resolve exceptions, and interpret data.
- Proficient in data entry.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications.

Compensation & Benefits
