Overview
A manufacturing industry organization is seeking a Collection Specialist to manage overdue accounts receivable and secure timely payments from business-to-business (B2B) customers. This role supports the company’s financial health by ensuring accurate payment application, resolving disputes, and maintaining strong customer relationships while enforcing payment terms.
Responsibilities
- Review accounts receivable aged 45 days or more and contact customers via email or phone
- Resolve invoicing and short payment issues
- Follow up on customer payment promises
- Obtain and analyze credit reports from Experian
- Review and release orders on credit hold prior to shipment
- Encourage on-time payments and recommend escalation when necessary
- Discuss special payment terms and prepare related credit paperwork
- Create and send open item statements to customers
- Research customer reimbursements within SAP
- Meet or exceed monthly collection targets and Days Sales Outstanding (DSO) reduction goals
- Resolve customer disputes in coordination with Sales, Customer Service, and Finance teams
- Assist in annual financial audit preparation
- Comply with applicable quality manuals, regulations, and training requirements
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Accounting Manager
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum 2 years of B2B collections experience, preferably in manufacturing
- Experience with SAP is beneficial
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team
- Skilled at managing difficult conversations while maintaining customer relationships
- Detail-oriented with strong accuracy
- Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
- Problem-solving and negotiation abilities
- Experience working in multi-cultural and multi-generational environments
- Physical ability to stand, sit, or walk for 8 hours per day
