Overview

This role involves managing payroll and commissions accounting functions for a distributed energy platform operator. The position reports to the Accounting Manager and is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing, commissions calculations, and financial reporting. The role is fully remote with flexibility to work from the candidate's preferred location.

Responsibilities

  • Implement, maintain, and review payroll processing systems to ensure timely and accurate salary, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and deductions processing.
  • Calculate monthly and quarterly commissions payments according to approved compensation plans.
  • Reconcile commissions payouts against bookings and revenue data; resolve discrepancies.
  • Respond to employee and management inquiries regarding payroll and commissions calculations, providing supporting documentation.
  • Coordinate annual updates to the Commissions Plan.
  • Assist in drafting Individual Compensation Plans for sales team members.
  • Process payroll updates including new hires, terminations, and pay rate changes accurately and promptly.
  • Prepare and maintain detailed records and reports of payroll transactions.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws and best practices.
  • Facilitate audits by providing necessary records and documentation.
  • Identify and recommend improvements to payroll processing software, systems, and procedures.
  • Assist in preparing financial analyses and schedules for audits and coordinate audit requests.
  • Support special projects and ad hoc tasks as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in payroll, commissions, or accounting operations.
  • Experience processing payroll in multi-state and/or global environments preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations.
  • Goal-oriented with ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
  • Highly motivated, organized, adaptable, and detail-oriented with a high degree of accuracy and confidentiality.
  • Ability to work independently in a fully remote setting while collaborating effectively across teams.
  • Strong mathematical and analytical skills.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (including pivot tables, lookups, and data analysis).
  • Experience with Sage Intacct, Rippling, Tipalti, Carta, Salesforce, and Google Sheets is preferred but not required.
  • Bonus: experience in the clean technology industry.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base salary range: $75,000 to $85,000 annually, commensurate with experience.

Location & Work Authorization

  • This is a remote position with the expectation that employees work primarily from their home country.
