Overview
This role supports a craft and hobby consumer products business by taking ownership of accounting for its North American operations. The organization has outgrown its current accounting processes and needs a hands-on Controller to clean up, rebuild, and modernize core workflows (AP, AR, inventory, and month-end close). This is a build-and-fix position rather than a pure maintenance role.
Responsibilities
- Process cleanup and redesign: Document how work is performed today, then rebuild month-end close, AP, AR, and inventory workflows using modern tools, automation, and clean NetSuite reporting. Ensure workflows are documented so the broader team can run them.
- Month-end close (North American entity): Lead reconciliations, accruals, journal entries, and maintain a close calendar the team can consistently meet.
- Inventory accounting (several thousand SKUs):
- Manage landed cost (freight, duty, tariffs)
- Oversee costing and reserves for slow-moving stock
- Reconcile physical counts to warehouse records
- Cash forecasting and working capital:
- Maintain and update a rolling 13-week cash flow forecast every week
- Run AP payment activities
- Follow through on collections
- Provide reporting to lenders and financing partners
- Channel accounting: Own accounting across e-commerce, national retailers, and distributors, including retailer deductions and chargebacks, customer terms, and AR.
- Multi-entity and international support: Support intercompany activity, FX, and consolidation needs with European and Asian entities.
- Compliance support: Handle multi-state sales tax and 1099s, coordinating with outside tax advisors and auditors as needed.
