Overview
The organization is seeking a Controller who will own the accounting function end-to-end, including PNL reconciliation, and act as a financial business partner to leadership.
This opportunity is remote and based in Texas.
Responsibilities
- Own the full accounting function, including books, records, and internal controls, maintained in Xero.
- Lead the monthly PNL reconciliation process with investors, identifying and resolving discrepancies to ensure the firm’s numbers are accurate and well-supported.
- Build strong, trust-based relationships with clients and stakeholders to resolve discrepancies quickly and effectively.
- Review and approve supplier invoices, supporting cost control and ensuring the firm does not overpay for expenses; resolve invoice discrepancies as needed.
- Manage payroll across the US and Canada using ADP, ensuring accuracy and on-time processing.
- Ensure accounting books, records, and related internal controls are appropriate for audit.
- Design, document, and maintain accounting policies and internal controls appropriate for the company’s size and regulatory environment.
- Own all money-related processes, including managing bank accounts, ad hoc banking tasks, transfers, and money-related HR tasks.
Requirements
- 7+ years of accounting experience, including prior experience owning a full accounting function inside a hedge fund or alternative investment fund.
- Hands-on general ledger ownership, running books independently without oversight.
- Experience reconciling internal PNL to an external party’s calculation.
- Demonstrated ability to identify and resolve discrepancies with confidence, including advocating for a position with an external party using clear, accurate data.
- Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with the ability to maintain productive working relationships in direct communication.
- Proficiency or ability to ramp quickly on Xero and ADP for both US and Canada payroll.
- Comfortable being the sole finance person in the building.
