Overview

This role owns the accounting function end to end and serves as the organization’s senior accounting leader. It is a hands-on position within a lean team, covering monthly close across multiple entities in two currencies, US GAAP reporting and consolidation, statutory/local books for a foreign subsidiary, annual audit coordination, payroll, and US federal and multi-state tax compliance. The Controller also leads the billing and accounts payable cycles and drives process, systems, and control improvements.

The Controller reports to the SVP, Finance and leads a team of four across accounting and billing: a Senior Accountant, Staff Accountant, Billing Specialist, and a part-time Bookkeeper. The role partners with executive leadership, business leaders, external auditors, tax advisors, lenders, and the private equity sponsor.

Responsibilities

Accounting Close & Reporting

  • Own and manage the monthly close: a five-business-day hard close across five entities, including review of journal entries, account reconciliations, and fluctuation analysis to support internal distribution of the monthly reporting package.
  • Own multi-entity consolidation, intercompany accounting and eliminations, and foreign currency translation for a foreign subsidiary.
  • Coordinate and oversee annual external audits, including the consolidated US GAAP audit and the 401(k) plan audit.

Billing & Accounts Payable

  • Oversee accounts payable and lead the customer billing function covering approximately 400 monthly invoices across three product lines.
  • Ensure billing accuracy and effective contract-to-billing setup, including cash application and collections.

Internal Controls

  • Own the internal control environment, including segregation of duties across accounting and payroll cycles.

Technical Accounting

Serve as technical accounting lead by researching, documenting, and defending accounting positions and engaging third-party specialists when additional depth is needed for:

  • ASC 606 revenue recognition for multi-element software, implementation, and services arrangements (performance obligation identification, standalone selling price allocation, contract modifications, and deferred revenue)
  • ASC 350-40 capitalization of internal-use software development costs (engineering time capture and amortization)
  • Ongoing monitoring of industry trends, regulations, and new accounting rules

International Operations & Payroll

  • Maintain books of the foreign subsidiary in local currency for statutory and local tax purposes, while also providing US GAAP reporting for consolidation.
  • Act as counterpart to the foreign tax firm by preparing and providing information required for local filings.
  • Review and approve foreign payroll.
  • Process US payroll across multiple states and review payroll registers and change reports each cycle.

Analytics & FP&A Support

  • Support the budgeting process and assist with trend analysis in partnership with the SVP, Finance and the Director of FP&A, including participation in management meetings to review results.
  • Champion data standardization and governance.

Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal government requirements.
  • Prepare and provide annual income tax packages for external tax advisors covering US federal and multiple state jurisdictions and coordinate estimated payments.
  • Own sales and non-income tax compliance across multiple states, including administration of the Avalara integration with NetSuite.
  • Support private equity sponsor reporting and lender compliance reporting requirements.

Team Leadership

  • Lead and develop a team of four across technical accounting, transaction processing, and billing.
  • Clarify roles and responsibilities and build documented cross-coverage so recurring obligations do not depend on a single person.
  • Create and promote a positive and supportive work environment.

Process & Systems

  • Own NetSuite configuration, process design, and automation, including planned business intelligence and reporting initiatives.
  • Understand, develop, and document accounting policies and procedures.
  • Drive audit and diligence readiness as the business grows.

Requirements

  • Strong command of US GAAP in a software environment, including ability to research, document, and defend technical positions with external auditors.
  • Hands-on ERP experience and advanced Excel skills.
  • Experience with multi-entity consolidation and a foreign subsidiary, including foreign currency translation.
  • Experience leading a small team across both professional accounting and transactional roles, in a hands-on environment where the leader both prepares and reviews.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills; ability to convey complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with ability to think strategically and provide actionable insights.
  • Ability to operate in a lean, private equity-backed environment with a defined reporting cadence and direct exposure to the sponsor, lenders, and auditors.
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines and manage competing obligations.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • Minimum of ten years of progressive accounting experience, including at least three years owning a monthly close end to end.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Active CPA.
  • Experience with NetSuite, Avalara, Paylocity, Ramp, or comparable AP automation.
  • A foundation in public accounting audit.
  • Software or SaaS industry experience.
  • Healthcare technology experience.
  • Experience with a private equity-backed company.
  • Prior exposure to transaction process, including diligence, quality of earnings, or purchase accounting.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Competitive health benefits, including medical, dental, and vision coverage.
  • 401(k) with company contribution.
  • Flexible paid time off (PTO), plus 72 hours of sick time.
  • Flexibility and trust: empowered scheduling and work arrangements to support personal lives.
  • Opportunities for learning, mentorship, and professional development.
