Overview
This role serves as the lead Credit Underwriter for the Energy vertical, responsible for delivering high-quality credit limit decisions, efficient turnaround times, and clear communications with existing customers and prospects. The position supports growth and profitability objectives within the energy sector.
Responsibilities
- Assess buyers using internal and external information along with market knowledge.
- Prepare credit limit recommendations in accordance with the relevant authority matrix to optimize results.
- Monitor the Energy portfolio through reporting tools, collaborate with the Credit Assessment team, and engage with local and international colleagues to gather necessary information.
- Support the Commercial team in managing the portfolio by steering customer loss ratios and implementing actions to maintain or restore profitability.
- Develop industry knowledge by attending association and industry networking events.
- Consistently make credit decisions on credit limits.
- Lead and participate in media engagements, including identifying appropriate media outlets, developing Points of View (POV), and conducting outreach as needed.
- Mentor and provide guidance and training to team members.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Advanced degree (MBA or MS) in Finance, Economics, or a related discipline.
- Expertise in NAESB, ISDA, and other relevant Energy contracts, including physical and spot trading mechanics.
- Sector-specific risk assessment knowledge covering regulatory, financial, and legal frameworks.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in credit underwriting, preferably within trade credit insurance or banking.
- Proficient computer skills with understanding of financial software and spreadsheet packages.
- Market knowledge of the US and Canadian energy sectors.
- Strong business expertise and finance assessment skills.
- Demonstrated commercial awareness and ability to support relationship management activities.
- Strong analytical and research skills.
- Ability to build long-term relationships with clients, relationship managers, and brokers, even when delivering restrictive decisions.
- Strong planning, organizational, and workflow prioritization skills.
- Effective communication skills, capable of convincing others of decisions and managing meetings with high-profile senior executives.
- Basic awareness of Artificial Intelligence technologies and enthusiasm for learning and integrating AI into business processes, including familiarity with Generative AI, Data Analysis, Microsoft Copilot, and ChatGPT.
Compensation and Benefits
- Total compensation range: $160,000 - $190,000, placement within this range depends on experience, skills, and location.
