Overview
This role involves becoming an international tax specialist working with U.S. taxpayers living in over 150 countries worldwide. The position is part of a specialized, fast-growing international tax practice serving expatriates through a virtual tax platform. It is a seasonal position from January through October, with opportunities for year-round employment based on performance.
Responsibilities
- Conduct tax interviews and analyze international tax issues to prepare complete and accurate U.S. tax returns for expatriate clients in assigned countries or regions.
- Follow internal guidelines for reviewing and referring tax returns.
- Provide tax information and feedback to clients regarding their tax preparation; escalate unresolved concerns to management.
- Collaborate with client service professionals to finalize tax returns and guide clients on electronic filing or mailing to the IRS or State Department of Revenue.
- Utilize internal resources to research complex tax issues related to assigned countries.
- Participate in comprehensive paid training at the start and ongoing continuing education.
- Develop in-depth knowledge of foreign tax and financial systems in assigned countries to enhance client service.
- Read recommended business and tax publications to stay informed.
- Assist in transitioning acquired clients to the organization’s brand.
- Use prior global experience or education to build rapport and provide comprehensive service.
- Proactively seek new clients through referrals and client acquisition plans.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
- Enrolled Agent (EA), Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Juris Doctor (JD), or Master of Laws (LLM) preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years related work experience.
- Ability to communicate tax and financial advice clearly in various settings, including public speaking.
- Quick learner with a willingness to ask questions.
- Ability to serve clients remotely using virtual tools and systems.
- Circular 230 credentials (EA, CPA, or Attorney) or willingness to obtain within one year of employment.
- Effective time management skills to handle multiple tasks and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Prior international tax experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ability to communicate effectively in multiple languages.
- Customer service experience.
- Experience preparing taxes for U.S. expatriates, U.S. inpatriates, and familiarity with Forms 5471 and 3520.
Compensation & Benefits
- Pay range: $18.41 - $27.64 per hour, subject to local minimum wage laws.
- Individual pay depends on experience, education, skills, performance, and work location.
- Potential eligibility for incentive compensation or short-term incentive plans.
