Overview
This role involves supporting budgeting, forecasting, reporting, and analysis of business performance. The focus is on careful handling of financial information and explaining what the numbers mean in practical terms.
Variance analysis should go beyond stating that a number is higher or lower. Where the information allows, you will help identify operational or financial drivers behind the movement and explain whether the difference appears temporary, recurring, assumption-driven, or in need of further review.
Work spans both routine reporting and forward-looking analysis—some tasks follow regular financial cycles, while others require comparing scenarios, investigating variance, or connecting financial results with operating activity.
Responsibilities
- Compare actual financial results with budgets, forecasts, and prior periods, explaining meaningful variances.
- Analyze revenue, expenses, margins, and other financial or operating measures to identify performance drivers.
- Perform trend, sensitivity, and scenario analysis to show how changing assumptions may affect expected results.
- Reconcile information across schedules or reports and investigate material inconsistencies.
- Review source information and validate calculations before financial analysis is distributed or relied upon.
- Help improve recurring financial reporting processes while maintaining appropriate review controls.
Qualifications
- Strong numerical reasoning, attention to detail, and a disciplined approach to checking financial information.
- Comfort using Microsoft Excel or comparable spreadsheet software for calculations and organized financial schedules.
- Interest in financial modeling, scenario analysis, and forward-looking business planning.
- Ability to compare results, identify material variances, and explain the drivers behind a financial change.
- Ability to manage assigned priorities independently while collaborating through digital tools in a remote environment.
