Overview
This role requires working four days onsite at the Seneca One location in Buffalo, NY, with the flexibility to work from home one day per week.
The FinOps Analyst is responsible for driving financial accountability, cost transparency, and operational efficiency across the technology ecosystem. This position acts as a strategic partner to application owners, engineering teams, and technology leaders to ensure cloud and technology investments align with organizational goals and are optimized throughout their lifecycle.
Responsibilities
- Prepare well-documented functional specifications, test plans, test cases, and execute testing for assigned projects.
- Conduct research and analysis of complex data to ensure accurate functional design.
- Mentor less experienced staff by assisting with application training, research analysis, and project methodology.
- Serve as functional lead on complex projects, schedule and facilitate project team meetings, and document meeting minutes.
- Meet with business clients to discuss requested application changes related to enterprise-wide or business initiatives, compliance/regulatory requirements, contractual agreements, or system maintenance.
- Participate in design discussions and deliver required functional specifications.
- Collaborate with lines of business to identify user requirements and provide feedback to ensure technology applications support customer needs and products/services.
- Review business requirements with technology teams to ensure understanding.
- Coordinate and provide estimates for large projects, including timelines and project phases.
- Serve as subject matter expert advising on application impacts from enterprise-wide initiatives such as acquisitions or major product/service changes.
- Work with vendors and technical teams to understand project functionality and provide implementation insights.
- May serve as Test Coordinator for large initiatives involving multiple applications.
- Participate in and document data mapping for system integration, conversion, and acquisition-related projects.
- Collaborate with testing teams to prepare test plans and scripts, manage and execute test cases, and verify changes and enhancements.
- Monitor functional specifications and change requests to ensure projects stay within scope and meet regulatory and corporate technology standards.
- Ensure consistent documentation, review, and resolution of change requests.
- Facilitate efficient and timely resolution of issues arising from testing or implementation.
- Coordinate and manage post-implementation activities including feedback collection, issue resolution, and debriefing with timeline and financial comparisons.
- Adhere to risk and regulatory standards, policies, and controls; identify and escalate risk-related issues as needed.
- Maintain internal control standards, including timely implementation of audit points and addressing issues raised by external regulators.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Minimum of 6 years combined higher education and/or operational/business analytics experience.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Strong lateral thinking and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficiency with personal computers and relevant software packages.
- Excellent problem-solving skills to assist in issue resolution.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree.
- Subject matter expertise in the FinOps lifecycle: Inform, Optimize, and Operate.
- Advanced understanding of IT financial management strategies such as Showback vs Chargeback.
- Advanced knowledge of cost allocation models for shared services.
- Excellent understanding of application frameworks.
- Ability to work with application owners and educate on implementing cost savings.
- Familiarity with application development software and cloud modernization platforms.
Compensation & Benefits
- Annual salary range: $85,800.00 - $143,000.00 (USD).
- Compensation will be based on the candidate's combination of knowledge, skills, and experience.
