Overview
A proprietary trading firm headquartered in Chicago is seeking an Operations Analyst to support fixed income operations. The firm specializes in proprietary trading using its own capital and risk management strategies, providing liquidity and hedging solutions in global financial markets. The role involves monitoring clearing funds, assessing settlement risk, reconciling trades, and balancing bank accounts while collaborating with treasury, technology, and operations teams.
Responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day fixed income operations workflow, primarily supporting the repo desk with financing position allocation and management.
- Monitor Treasury and MBS exposure to mitigate credit risk and fund margin calls using cash and collateral.
- Oversee trade monitoring and reconciliation of repo positions to minimize settlement risk and ensure timely settlements.
- Ensure accurate import of repo trading activity into back-office systems and submission to DTCC.
- Act as liaison internally (Front Office, Middle Office, Risk) and externally (custodians, counterparties, third-party vendors).
- Optimize end-of-day balances at BMO and BNY banks.
- Maintain and update financial records for management.
- Support MBS rolls, pairoffs, voice broker trade confirmations, and opening/closing of new trades.
- Verify GCF trade details and reconcile with DTCC records.
- Contribute to projects aimed at optimizing trade workflows and advancing technology.
- Maintain constant connectivity and real-time communication in this remote, desk-based role to stay engaged with the team and market activities.
Requirements
- Minimum 4 years of fixed income experience (US Treasuries and MBS) in a detail-oriented financial markets role, preferably in operations.
- Undergraduate degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or related field.
- Proficiency in Excel required; experience with VBA, SQL, and/or Python scripting preferred.
- Strong critical thinking and communication skills.
- Proven ability to work effectively both independently and in team settings.
- Precision and reliability in executing routine tasks.
- Ability to manage multiple concurrent tasks.
- Understanding of broader business context and ability to anticipate downstream effects.
- Availability to start work at 7am ET, with potential coverage as early as 6am ET.
- Securities Industry Essentials (SIE) and Series 7 licenses or willingness to obtain within the first year.
