Overview
This role is a hands-on Fractional CFO position for a profitable DTC pet products brand with annual revenue of $50M+ and scaling to $100M+. The engagement is fully remote and typically requires about 1–2 days per week (as needed). The goal is to own the company’s finances end to end—running cash flow, managing the monthly close, overseeing payments and tax filings, and owning credit lines and lender relationships.
The organization sells premium pet products across Shopify, Amazon, and Chewy, and recently launched a second brand.
Responsibilities
- Own cash flow management end to end, including weekly maintenance of a 13-week cash flow and visibility into the cash trough.
- Run the monthly close process with the bookkeeper; ensure books are accurate and closed on time each month.
- Manage payments and ensure everything is paid correctly and on time, including:
- Contractor pay (twice a month)
- Supplier and freight invoices
- Software and card expenses
- Affiliate and creator payouts
- Forecast and track subscription performance, including subscriptions, subscription cohorts, and the cash conversion cycle; flag variances against plan the week they emerge.
- Oversee sales tax and corporate tax compliance, ensuring filings are prepared correctly with a CPA and submitted on time.
- Budget ownership: set and track annual and monthly budgets, and review fixed costs against budget with the CEO.
- Own lender and credit strategy, including:
- Growing credit limits and lines
- Setting up and/or managing an inventory- or receivables-backed credit facility
- Ensuring credit/capital is available to fund the next two quarters of purchase orders
- Maintaining lender confidence with clean reporting
- Implement and maintain financial controls, including:
- Two-person approvals on every payment
- Monthly account reconciliations
- Audit-ready books
- Provide reporting and decision support:
- Bring cash positioning to the weekly leadership meeting
- Send a monthly finance report to the CEO
- Maintain responsive support for cash or payment issues even outside the scheduled days.
Outcomes (Success Measures)
- Cash flow, subscriptions, and the cash conversion cycle are projected clearly with projections vs actuals alignment, and cash does not fall below the minimum balance.
- Books are accurate and closed on time every month; no corrections after P&L review with the CEO.
- Everyone is paid right and on time: contractor pay, bills, and payouts.
- Fixed costs stay within budget.
- Credit and capital are available to fund growth, including credit available vs. cash needed for the next two quarters of purchase orders.
- Financial controls are followed and books are audit-ready (second approval on payments; all accounts reconciled monthly).
