Overview

This role is for a hands-on Fractional CFO to take end-to-end ownership of finances for a profitable DTC pet brand. The position covers cash flow, monthly close, payments, tax, budgets, projections, and credit facilities that fund growth. Estimated time commitment is about 1–2 days a week (approximately as needed).

The organization generates $50M+ in annual revenue and is scaling to $100M+. It sells across Shopify, Amazon, and Chewy, and recently launched a second brand.

Responsibilities

  • Own cash flow and forecasting end to end, including maintaining a current 13-week cash flow every week ahead of the Monday leadership meeting
  • Monitor and communicate cash position, including the “cash trough,” and time PO, freight, and supplier payments to the plan
  • Drive the monthly close process with an outside bookkeeper and ensure books are closed accurately and on time each month
  • Review the P&L against budget with the CEO and ensure no corrections are needed after the P&L review
  • Manage payments and payouts, including:
    • Contractor pay (twice per month)
    • Supplier and freight invoices
    • Software and card expenses
    • Affiliate and creator payouts
    • Ensure all payments are correct and made by due date
  • Forecast subscription performance, including subscriptions, subscription cohorts, and the cash conversion cycle; flag items moving against plan the week they show up
  • Ensure tax compliance and filings are correct and submitted on time with the organization’s CPA (sales tax and corporate tax)
  • Own financial controls and audit readiness, including:
    • Two-person approvals on every payment
    • Monthly reconciliations for every account
  • Manage credit and lender relationships to ensure growth is funded, including:
    • Growing credit limits and lines
    • Setting up and running an asset-based lending facility
    • Ensuring the next two quarters of purchase orders are funded
  • Manage key lender and banking relationships and maintain clean reporting to keep lenders confident
  • Oversee financial reporting and provide regular updates to leadership and the CEO, including a weekly cash picture and a monthly finance report
  • Support entity setup and structure as needed with the CPA
  • Own and improve the finance operating process, including AI/automation for financial workflows and controls
  • Manage currency exposure on supplier payments (RMB, USD, CAD)

Outcomes (Success Looks Like)

  • Cash flow, subscriptions, and the cash conversion cycle are projected clearly, with projections vs actuals showing no surprises and cash never below the minimum balance
  • Books are accurate and closed on time every month (close date each month; no corrections after CEO P&L review)
  • Contractors, bills, and payouts are paid right and on time
  • Fixed costs remain within budget (monthly fixed costs vs budget)
  • Credit and capital are sufficient to fund growth (credit available vs cash needed for the next two quarters of purchase orders)
  • Money is controlled and books are audit-ready (second approval on every payment; all accounts reconciled monthly)

Requirements

  • Fluent in English
  • Finance leadership experience: CFO or VP of Finance for at least one DTC ecommerce brand doing $30M+ a year (required)

  • Experience handling contractor and supplier payments directly
  • Ecommerce finance experience, including reconciling Shopify and Amazon payouts and understanding nCPA, MER, LTV, COGS, and inventory cash cycles
  • Forecasting experience building cash flow, subscription cohort, and cash conversion cycle projections that hold up against actuals
  • Capital & lender experience: set up or managed an inventory- or receivables-backed credit facility and kept lenders confident with clean reporting
  • Tax and controls experience, including sales tax work alongside a CPA and running a clean payment process with approvals and reconciliations
  • High attention to detail (catch wrong amounts, duplicates, or missed filings before money moves)
