Overview
This role is for a hands-on Fractional CFO supporting a profitable direct-to-consumer (DTC) pet brand. You will take ownership of the company’s finances end to end—running cash flow, monthly close, payments, tax, budgeting, and credit lines that fund growth.
Engagement is approximately 1–2 days a week (fully remote).
Responsibilities
- Own cash flow and forecasting end to end, including maintaining a current 13-week cash flow weekly and identifying the cash trough.
- Run the monthly close process with the bookkeeper and ensure the books close on time each month.
- Manage payments and payment operations, including:
- Contractor pay
- Supplier and freight bills
- Software and card expenses
- Affiliate and creator payouts
- Ensure projections and reporting support leadership decisions:
- Project subscriptions, subscription cohorts, and the cash conversion cycle
- Compare projections vs. actuals and flag variances the week they appear
- Provide a monthly finance report to the CEO
- Maintain accurate books and controls:
- Reconcile every account monthly
- Ensure every payment has two-person approval
- Keep the books audit-ready
- Lead tax and compliance operations in coordination with the CPA:
- Ensure sales tax filings are prepared correctly and submitted on time
- Ensure corporate tax filings are correct and on time
- Own capital planning and financing:
- Grow credit limits and financial lines
- Set up and manage an asset-based lending facility
- Ensure the next two quarters of purchase orders are funded
- Manage lender relationships and bank relationships
- Improve financial terms and cash efficiency, including improving cash conversion cycle and cash timing.
- Manage foreign currency exposure for supplier payments (RMB, USD, CAD).
- Help structure finance processes and oversee controls/automation (including AI finance agents and automations) with the goal of reducing manual work while maintaining accuracy.
Outcomes (Success Looks Like)
- Cash flow, subscriptions, and the cash conversion cycle are projected clearly with no surprises (projections vs. actuals; cash never below the minimum balance).
- Monthly books are accurate and closed on time each month (no corrections needed after CEO P&L review).
- Everyone is paid right and on time (contractors, bills, and payouts by due date).
- Fixed costs remain within budget (monthly fixed costs vs. budget).
- The organization has credit and capital to fund growth (credit available vs. cash needed for the next two quarters of purchase orders).
- Money is controlled and reporting is audit-ready (second approval on payments; accounts reconciled monthly).
