Overview
An established company in the home services industry is seeking an International Payroll Lead to manage payroll operations across five European countries: Netherlands, Germany, Austria, United Kingdom, and France. This role involves both strategic oversight and hands-on execution of payroll functions to ensure accuracy, compliance, and standardization.
This is a remote position, ideally suited for candidates located in Eastern or Central Time zones to align with team working hours.
Responsibilities
- Manage end-to-end payroll processing for Netherlands, Germany, United Kingdom, France, and Austria, ensuring timely and accurate execution
- Ensure compliance with local labor laws, tax regulations, and internal governance standards including SOX controls
- Collaborate with external payroll providers and internal stakeholders to streamline payroll operations and resolve issues
- Act as the primary contact for payroll-related inquiries from employees, vendors, and internal teams
- Maintain and improve payroll systems, processes, and controls
- Prepare payroll reports and reconciliations for Accounting, Finance, and HR teams
- Assist with payroll journal entries during month-end close
- Support audits and implement recommendations for continuous improvement
- Work closely with HR to ensure payroll data accuracy aligned with employee lifecycle events such as onboarding, promotions, and terminations
- Provide support to the U.S. payroll team as needed
Requirements
- Minimum 4 years of experience managing multi-country payroll operations across European jurisdictions; experience in Netherlands, UK, Germany, or France is a plus
- Experience handling payroll implications of equity awards across multiple jurisdictions, including taxation, withholding, and reporting
- Strong knowledge of European labor laws and statutory payroll requirements
- Preferred knowledge of U.S. and Canadian labor laws and payroll practices
- Exceptional attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills
- Proven experience managing relationships with external payroll providers across multiple countries
- Excellent customer service skills with a sense of urgency
- Proficiency in international HRIS and payroll systems such as Personio, UKG/Immedis, ADP, SAP, or similar
- Self-driven and able to work autonomously
- Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables and lookup functions
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative, and international environment
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion
- Fluent written and spoken English
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary range: $70,000 - $90,000 annually, commensurate with experience and performance; may vary based on cost of living
