Overview
This role supports investment accounting and reporting activities, including investment accounting, financial close, regulatory reporting, and financial data governance. You will help ensure the accuracy, completeness, and integrity of investment accounting records across a diverse portfolio that may include bonds, equities, mortgage loans, derivatives, hedge funds, limited partnerships, and tax credit investments.
You will partner with Accounting, Finance, Actuarial, FP&A, Investments, Technology, and third-party service providers to support timely close processes, maintain financial controls, and deliver accurate GAAP and Statutory reporting.
Responsibilities
- Participate in monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting close processes, including preparation of journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, and supporting analyses
- Research, document, and resolve accounting issues related to a diverse investment portfolio, including fixed income securities, equities, mortgage loans, derivatives, alternative investments, and tax credit structures
- Support GAAP and Statutory financial reporting processes, including preparation of disclosures, schedules, variance analyses, and management reporting deliverables
- Maintain strong internal controls and support internal and external audit requests, regulatory examinations, and accounting policy compliance initiatives
- Steward investment accounting data by monitoring data quality, performing reconciliations and validation activities, and ensuring accuracy and completeness of information used in financial reporting and decision-making
- Partner with Accounting, Investments, Finance, Technology, and external service providers to resolve accounting, operational, and data-related issues and improve end-to-end processes
- Identify opportunities for automation, standardization, and process improvement to enhance efficiency, scalability, and the control environment of the investment accounting function
- Support business initiatives, system implementations, reporting enhancements, and data governance framework, including documentation of business processes, controls, and reporting requirements
- Deliver high-quality work products with strong attention to detail, professional judgment, and a commitment to continuous improvement
Requirements
- BA/BS in Accounting or related field
- CPA or progress toward CPA preferred
- Relevant work experience in public accounting, insurance or finance preferred
- Strong understanding of GAAP accounting principles; Statutory accounting knowledge preferred
- Experience with financial close, reconciliations, account analysis, and internal controls
- Demonstrated ability to research and document technical accounting matters
- Ability to work and succeed in a fast-paced environment
- Strong process improvement skills and the ability to “think outside the box”
- Knowledge of financial data governance, data quality management, or reporting controls preferred
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with ability to identify root causes and implement sustainable solutions
- Highly motivated with a strong desire to exceed expectations in a challenging, fast-paced environment
- Desire to work with a team where growth and improvement are encouraged and supported
- Proven ability to interact effectively and communicate complex investment accounting guidelines and policies in an understandable manner to various levels of staff and external vendors

Preferred Qualifications
- CPA or progress toward CPA
- Experience in public accounting, insurance, or finance
- Statutory accounting knowledge
- Knowledge of financial data governance, data quality management, or reporting controls
