Overview
A global sustainability organization headquartered in Houston, TX, with projects and partners worldwide, is seeking a full-time Junior Inventory Accountant to join their Finance team. This remote position has a preference for candidates located in Tampa, Florida. The organization focuses on advancing low-carbon solutions and restoring nature through market-based approaches, offering services including environmental asset innovation, ESG and climate strategy consulting, regulatory and policy advisory, environmental credits, API solutions, and climate action certification programs.
Responsibilities
- Maintain and reconcile inventory records for environmental commodities such as carbon credits, Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs), and related instruments across multiple registries and platforms.
- Process inventory transactions including acquisitions, retirements, and transfers accurately and promptly.
- Assist with month-end and quarter-end close activities, including reconciling inventory subledger to the general ledger.
- Prepare journal entries and supporting documentation in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Support internal and external audit requests related to inventory.
- Identify and flag discrepancies, collaborating cross-functionally with Operations and commercial teams to resolve issues.
- Assist in developing and improving inventory tracking procedures and internal controls.
- Generate inventory reports and summaries for Finance leadership as needed.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 0–2 years of accounting or finance experience; internship experience is welcomed.
- Foundational understanding of GAAP accounting principles.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; experience with ERP or accounting systems is a plus.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.
- Intellectual curiosity and interest in sustainability, carbon markets, or environmental finance.
Preferred Qualifications
- Exposure to environmental commodities, carbon registries (e.g., Verra, Gold Standard, APX), or financial services.
- Experience with NetSuite or similar ERP platforms.
- CPA candidate or intention to pursue CPA licensure.
