Overview
An Accounting Manager position is available with a remote-first team in the United States, with location options in Brooklyn, NY or Burlington, VT.
This role supports utilities and their customers in building a cleaner, more distributed energy future by helping consumers turn smart thermostats, EVs, and batteries into virtual power plants that keep the grid stable and expand renewable capacity.
Responsibilities
- Own month-end and quarter-end close activities, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules, ensuring accuracy and timely completion within the broader schedule set by the parent company’s corporate accounting.
- Evaluate and redesign the close process end-to-end, building scalable, repeatable workflows, documentation, and controls to support them.
- Serve as the escalation point for complex or judgmental accounting matters, including revenue recognition under ASC 606.
- Act as the primary close liaison with the parent company’s corporate accounting team, meeting standards for accuracy, documentation, and deadlines, and translating requirements back to internal teams in a way that supports execution.
- Partner with internal teams including operations, customer success, and FP&A to provide accounting guidance, context, and information needed for better decision-making.
- Play a key role in an ERP migration (multi-year initiative) that will reshape how the accounting function operates, in partnership with Finance leadership and the broader project team.
- Take on additional projects as business needs evolve.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
- Active CPA license.
- 6+ years of progressive accounting experience, including public accounting and close experience in a public company environment.
- Deep, working knowledge of U.S. GAAP.
- Demonstrated ability to identify process gaps and build scalable solutions.
- Strong project management, organizational, and time management skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience redesigning and implementing a close process and/or building management reporting packages from the ground up.
- Experience in SaaS, software, energy, or tech.
- Experience with multi-entity consolidation or a subsidiary/parent company reporting structure.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Dynamics GP (Great Plains).
