Overview

A healthcare organization is seeking a Medical Billing Specialist to join their team. This role involves ensuring timely submission of invoices, coordinating with providers and insurance companies, and collaborating effectively with team members. Attention to detail and a strong understanding of medical terminology, insurance procedures, and healthcare laws and regulations related to medical billing are essential.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately translate medical procedures, diagnoses, and equipment into standardized codes (CPT, ICD-10, HCPCS) for billing purposes.
  • Utilize correct coding to maximize reimbursement from insurance companies and patients.
  • Prepare and submit insurance claims promptly and accurately.
  • Review all claims thoroughly for accuracy before submission.
  • Monitor the status of submitted claims.
  • Investigate and resolve unpaid or denied claims, resubmitting when necessary.
  • Stay informed about changes in healthcare laws and regulations to maintain compliance.
  • Adhere to HIPAA regulations and ensure patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Maintain precise and organized records of all billing and claims activities.
  • Ensure all documentation adequately supports the claims submitted.

Requirements

  • Degree or certification in Medical Billing/Coding or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience in medical billing or a similar role.
  • Strong skills using electronic medical records (EMR) systems and other relevant software.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology, insurance procedures, and healthcare laws related to billing.
  • Exceptional accuracy in managing billing codes and claims to ensure maximum reimbursement and compliance.
  • Strong analytical skills to resolve billing discrepancies and issues efficiently.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively in a remote work environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact professionally with providers, insurance companies, and patients.
  • Commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality and adhering to HIPAA regulations at all times.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Power BI or similar reporting/analytics tools.
  • Prior experience in a remote work setting.
  • Familiarity with multiple EMR platforms.
  • Advanced knowledge of healthcare billing trends or revenue cycle management best practices.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Pay Range: $50,000 to $65,000 annually, based on qualifications including experience, skills, and geographic location.

Location

  • This is a fully remote position within the state of California.
  • Preference will be given to candidates based in the Los Angeles/Orange County area.
  • Periodic travel is required approximately quarterly to attend team meetings, training sessions, and company events.
