Overview
An established dermatology practice is seeking an experienced Medical Billing Specialist to manage the full revenue cycle within a fast-paced specialty healthcare environment. This primarily remote role requires occasional on-site meetings and is ideal for candidates with hands-on experience in claim submission, denial management, payment posting, accounts receivable follow-up, and insurance reimbursement.
Responsibilities
- Review visit coding, post charges, payments, and adjustments
- Process claims for reimbursement ensuring all necessary documentation is included
- Work denials and appeals to maximize reimbursement
- Handle customer service calls related to billing and collections
- Maintain related files and logs, and check patient insurance eligibility
- Coordinate communication of billable services with physicians and administrators
- Gather and exchange information to ensure timely claim processing and reduce outstanding accounts receivable
- Generate revenue by making payment arrangements and collecting accounts
- Monitor delinquent accounts and follow up with patients on payment lapses
- Utilize collection agencies when appropriate
- Educate patients on insurance and claims questions
- Secure payments by interviewing patients and establishing payment plans prior to sending monthly statements
- Follow HIPAA and OSHA policies
- Participate in educational opportunities to update job knowledge
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum 2 years of medical billing experience
- Dermatology, surgical, or specialty practice billing experience preferred
- Proficient in typing, spelling, punctuation, grammar, and oral communication
- Strong computer skills and ability to navigate Practice Management and EHR systems
- Detail oriented with ability to manage multiple priorities
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Experience with patient registration, payment collection, and insurance verification preferred
- Ability to communicate calmly and clearly with patients and colleagues both on the phone and in person
- Ability to prioritize tasks effectively
Note: This role focuses on medical billing and revenue cycle functions. Candidates primarily experienced in patient registration, scheduling, insurance verification, prior authorizations, call center operations, or front desk duties may not qualify.
