Overview

The organization is seeking an R&D Credit Services – Manager to join its National Tax practice. This is a remote position, but the role may require occasional in-office presence with scheduled notice for client work, team meetings, or trainings.

This position supports the R&D Credit Services Team within the National Tax practice. The team is growing, with opportunities for members to become regional leaders.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary point of contact and project manager for R&D credit studies and related activities to ensure engagements are conducted in accordance with practice standards, completed on time, and within budget, including conducting fieldwork and supporting client deliverables
  • Demonstrate expert time management and prioritization skills, complete work in a timely manner, and avoid using PTO/personal time during critical times of year
  • Demonstrate expert project management skills, keep projects progressing, update stakeholders, and manage and communicate stakeholder expectations
  • Develop and assist in executing work plans designed to identify and quantify research credit claims (including scope, fees, deliverables, timing, etc.)
  • Explain complex tax technical matters in simple terms to firm and client personnel
  • Assist other team members with engagement delivery as needed, including legal research and writing regarding technical issues
  • Lead overall engagement review, including technical review of calculations, work papers, and deliverables
  • Provide proactive project updates to stakeholders to manage expectations
  • Provide suggestions for efficiency improvements in process and engagement management
  • Provide coaching, training, and professional development of staff on a regular basis
  • Manage project budgets and engagement economics, and perform other job-related duties as necessary

Requirements

  • 5+ years of industry experience required, including 1–2 years in a managerial capacity
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university
  • Licensed CPA, J.D./LL.M.
  • Solid verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to evaluate and articulate complex information via email, phone, and video
  • Detailed understanding of federal and state rules, regulations, and relevant court cases
  • Mastery of topics including controlled groups, changes in ownership, funded research, utilization, Payroll Tax Credit, short periods, and entity conversions
  • Strong understanding of entity types and how the credit flows to its point of utilization
  • Ability to work in a deadline-driven environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously (independently and with a team)
  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with firm and client personnel and interact effectively with professionals at all levels
  • Ability to read and study relevant tax material related to R&D credit rules
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access, and use of the internet

Compensation & Benefits

  • Illinois salary range (National Tax Manager): $120,000 to $170,000
