Overview

This role is for a Senior Manager to join the Not-for-Profit team in the Client Accounting Advisory practice. The employer operates in a hybrid model. While this position is remote, scheduled on-site presence at an office may be required for client work, team meetings, or trainings.

The Client Accounting Advisory team partners with clients to deliver accounting, advisory, and technology services, including maintaining books and records, financial statement close management reporting, assistance with state and local tax filings, virtual controller/CFO services, and accounting technology solution development.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee the Not-for-Profit accounting team, ensuring timely delivery of client work products by team members
  • Independently perform and assist with complex accounting services for clients
  • Lead global teams by providing guidance and training on accounting principles and calculations; handle inquiries from clients and/or internal stakeholders
  • Apply knowledge of the industry and client challenges to deliver solutions and improve business and client deliverables
  • Identify cross-selling opportunities to provide additional value to clients
  • Manage team responsibilities to meet goals and benchmarks (e.g., delivering monthly financials, supporting skill development for career growth, and working within budget and time parameters)
  • Manage clients and maintain client relationships through proactive communications, exceeding client expectations, timely billing, and support with accounts receivable
  • Develop and strengthen expertise in technology used for delivery; ensure quality control procedures are executed and adhered to by team members
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement related to client work and/or practice operations
  • Become a subject matter expert for the industry vertical(s) being supported
  • Participate in mentoring, recruiting, retention, and team-building activities
  • Maintain professionalism and respect in all interactions
  • Follow applicable regulations and professional ethics of the AICPA and the state society
  • Maintain compliance with firm-wide and local office policies and procedures
  • Proactively develop relationships and communicate with clients, staff, and internal stakeholders
  • Respond timely and accurately to internal team and client requests
  • Solicit internal subject matter experts to support solutions for client challenges

Requirements

  • BA required; MBA and/or CPA license a plus
  • Proven ability to drive and lead corporate accounting processes and procedures, including cash management, AR/AP, month-end close, and payroll and benefits
  • Strong GAAP experience, including hands-on controllership functions related to consolidations, GL close, and financial reporting
  • Experience leading Client Accounting Services (CAS) engagements for nonprofit, governmental, and federally funded entities, leveraging expertise in Uniform Guidance (2 CFR 200), grant compliance, indirect cost allocations, internal controls, and audit readiness
  • Strong nonprofit experience
  • Strong communication, documentation, and presentation skills
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Visio, Project)
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities and meet critical deadlines
  • Accuracy and attention to detail; self-starter with a team-oriented, detail-focused approach
  • Significant knowledge of accounting and finance processes, including financial statement preparation and analysis

Preferred Qualifications

  • QuickBooks, NetSuite, and Sage Intacct experience

Compensation & Benefits

  • Location: Maryland
  • Salary range for an Advisory Senior Manager: $150,000 to $250,000
  • Actual compensation depends on skills, experience, qualifications, location, and applicable employment laws.
