Overview
A growing organization is seeking a Payroll Accountant to manage and oversee payroll functions, ensuring employees are paid accurately and on time. This remote position is ideally suited for candidates located in the Central or Eastern Time zones within the United States.
Responsibilities
- Administer end-to-end payroll processing for salaried and hourly employees, ensuring accuracy in earnings, deductions, and net pay calculations.
- Review and validate timekeeping records, overtime, bonuses, and deductions.
- Maintain payroll records and document employee changes such as new hires, terminations, and promotions.
- Calculate and process payroll adjustments including bonuses, commissions, retroactive pay, deductions, garnishments, leave of absence, and benefit withholdings.
- Prepare and file payroll tax returns, payments, and statutory reports as required by federal, state, and local authorities.
- Prepare payroll-related journal entries to accurately record payroll elements in the general ledger.
- Perform balance sheet reconciliations of payroll-related general ledger accounts.
- Coordinate with state agencies on registrations and tax notices.
- Respond promptly and professionally to employee payroll inquiries and other stakeholders.
- Partner with Human Resources and Benefits teams to reconcile payroll with benefits enrollments and deductions.
- Collaborate with Human Resources, Finance, and external auditors to resolve complex payroll issues and support audits or compliance reviews.
- Conduct regular internal reviews and stay current with changes to tax legislation, wage laws, and payroll administration best practices.
- Support year-end payroll activities, including W-2 and other tax filings.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Associate’s degree in Accounting required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in payroll processing, preferably within a medium-to-large multi-state organization.
- Comprehensive knowledge of payroll tax regulations, wage and hour laws, and compliance frameworks.
- Advanced proficiency with payroll and accounting software such as ADP, Paychex, SAP, Oracle, or similar platforms.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and other reporting tools.
- Must be located in the Central or Eastern Time zone.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary range: $61,968 to $74,660 per year.
