Overview
A company in the entertainment industry is seeking a Payroll Assistant Manager to oversee daily operations of the Corporate Payroll department. This role is critical for ensuring accurate payroll processing, regulatory compliance, and effective team management. The position supports operational efficiency and collaborates closely with HR on benefits and audits.
Responsibilities
- Supervise payroll staff and manage daily department operations
- Develop and monitor operational goals and performance metrics
- Assist with scheduling to control labor costs and meet staffing objectives
- Approve escalated wage, overtime, and payroll deduction issues
- Support Kronos system maintenance and handle Shared Services HR and Payroll Help Desk tickets
- Ensure timely and accurate payroll data entry
- Address payroll issues and recommend process improvements
- Ensure compliance with federal and state payroll regulations
- Investigate FTO/PTO variances and coordinate with HR
- Cancel and approve reissued checks and manual payments outside pay cycles
- Oversee holiday time processing and eligibility approvals
- Approve bi-weekly payroll after reconciliation
- Investigate and resolve payroll variances
- Generate ad hoc payroll reports as needed
- Collaborate with HR and Payroll Manager on 401(k) processing
- Assist with audits and maintain regulatory compliance
- Promote and uphold customer service standards within the department
- Maintain confidentiality of payroll and company information
Requirements
- Associate's Degree in Accounting or related field, or two or more years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Previous supervisory experience required
- Experience in a multi-unit company preferred
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to perform subordinate team member duties during emergencies
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Access, Outlook, and Word
- Knowledge of UltiPro and ADP systems preferred but not required
- Basic arithmetic skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and ability to interpret graphs
- Strong decision-making, problem-solving, and organizational skills
- Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
- Must be able to read, interpret, and communicate in English
- Ability to carry out instructions and solve problems in standardized situations
- Must be at least 18 years old and able to obtain and maintain gaming license if required by jurisdiction
