Overview

This role partners directly with clients to implement and optimize payroll solutions. You’ll act as a trusted advisor throughout the implementation lifecycle—gathering requirements, configuring payroll systems, delivering client training, and supporting a smooth transition to operational use. The ideal candidate combines payroll expertise with project management skills to improve payroll accuracy, compliance, and efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Lead payroll implementation projects from discovery through go-live, ensuring timelines and deliverables are met.
  • Understand client payroll processes, business requirements, compliance needs, and reporting objectives.
  • Configure payroll systems, including earnings and deduction codes, tax settings, direct deposit setup, accrual policies, and other payroll-related components.
  • Conduct payroll data reviews, validation, and testing to ensure accurate system setup and client readiness.
  • Facilitate implementation meetings and communicate project status, risks, and next steps with clients and internal stakeholders.
  • Deliver client training on payroll system functionality, best practices, workflows, and administrative features.
  • Support user acceptance testing (UAT) and guide clients through payroll parallel testing and go-live preparation.
  • Collaborate with sales, onboarding, HRIS, benefits, and technical teams to ensure successful implementations.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and recommend solutions that enhance payroll efficiency and compliance.
  • Develop and maintain detailed implementation documentation, including project notes, system configurations, and client records.
  • Serve as a payroll subject matter expert during implementations, providing guidance on payroll regulations and industry best practices.
  • Support post-go-live stabilization and ensure a seamless transition to ongoing client support teams.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of experience in payroll, payroll implementation, HRIS implementation, or payroll consulting.
  • Strong understanding of federal, state, and local payroll regulations and payroll best practices.
  • Experience implementing or configuring payroll platforms such as Paychex, ADP, UKG, Paylocity, Workday, or similar solutions.
  • Ability to gather business requirements and translate them into system configurations.
  • Strong project management, organization, and client relationship management skills.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and training abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple implementation projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Certification such as FPC, CPP, PMP, or related credentials is a plus.
  • Experience with data validation, payroll testing, and system conversion activities preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience implementing payroll solutions for construction organizations, including union payroll and prevailing wage requirements.
  • Consultative mindset with the ability to recommend solutions rather than simply execute tasks.
  • Ability to build credibility and trust with executive stakeholders and payroll teams.
  • Adaptable and resourceful when working through complex implementation challenges.
  • Passion for technology, process improvement, and promoting client success through advocacy, empathy and value realization.
  • Strong collaborator who thrives in cross-functional project environments.

Compensation & Benefits
