Overview
A leading organization in the Manufacturing & Automotive sector is seeking a Payroll Manager to join their team. This role focuses on operational priorities including safety, quality, compliance, and execution discipline. The Payroll Manager will collaborate with field leadership, support functions, and cross-functional stakeholders to enhance accountability, service delivery, and operational consistency. This position offers the opportunity to influence operational scale, customer outcomes, and organizational performance within a manufacturing environment.
Location: Remote (US-based candidates only, no visa sponsorship available)
Compensation: $128,400 – $168,500 annually
Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor a team of up to five Payroll Specialists through training and support
- Oversee accurate and timely payroll processing for multiple states and entities
- Configure, optimize, and troubleshoot Workday Payroll, Absence, and Time Tracking modules
- Manage payroll tax administration ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations
- Conduct audits and analyze payroll processes to recommend system enhancements
- Collaborate with HR, Finance, Legal, and leadership teams to align payroll with organizational goals
- Lead payroll integration projects as new business divisions join the Workday platform
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business, or related field preferred
- 5-7 years of progressive payroll experience, including at least 3 years in management roles
- Hands-on experience with Workday Payroll configuration required
- Strong understanding of multi-state payroll and compliance requirements
- Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables and VLOOKUP
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to engage with all organizational levels
- Experience leading payroll process improvements and audits
Preferred Qualifications
- Payroll certifications such as CPP or FPC
- Experience with Workday Absence and Time Tracking modules
- Familiarity with data migration tools, compliance management software, HRIS systems, project management tools, audit tools, and business intelligence tools
