Overview

This role leads the organization’s global payroll operations, ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant payroll processing for employees across multiple countries. The Payroll Manager oversees end-to-end payroll administration, payroll tax compliance, system administration, reporting, audits, and continuous process improvements. The position operates as a player/coach and partners closely with HR Operations, Finance, Internal Audit, Tax, Accounting, Benefits, and external payroll providers.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the end-to-end payroll process for domestic and international employees, ensuring payrolls are processed accurately and on schedule.
  • Partner with the Senior Director of Global HR Operations to support global payroll strategy, operational excellence, compliance initiatives, and continuous improvement of payroll processes.
  • Administer payroll through ADP Workforce Now (WFN) and coordinate payroll activities with international payroll providers and partners.
  • Conduct bi-weekly payroll audits for U.S. payroll operations, including validation of payroll accuracy, verification of employee deductions, review of tax withholding and benefit deductions, assessment of payroll adjustments, and identification of discrepancies prior to payroll submission.
  • Manage global time-off administration across countries and jurisdictions, including vacation, sick leave, personal leave, statutory leave, and other paid and unpaid time-off programs.
  • Maintain and administer country-specific time-off policies, rules, accruals, eligibility requirements, carryover provisions, and statutory requirements to ensure compliance with local labor laws and organizational policies.
  • Maintain oversight of payroll tax registrations, jurisdiction setup, tax withholding requirements, and regulatory updates across applicable federal, state, and local jurisdictions.
  • Review ADP SmartCompliance reports, tax filings, agency notices, and compliance alerts to identify discrepancies, investigate issues, and coordinate timely resolution.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable payroll, tax, wage and hour, and employment regulations in all jurisdictions where employees are located.
  • Maintain employee payroll records, including earnings, deductions, taxes, garnishments, direct deposits, and benefit deductions.
  • Oversee payroll tax reporting, filings, reconciliations, and year-end processing.
  • Partner with Finance to reconcile payroll-related general ledger accounts and support month-end and year-end close activities.
  • Review payroll reports and conduct regular audits to ensure payroll accuracy and data integrity.
  • Oversee payroll interfaces between HRIS, timekeeping, benefits, finance, retirement, and third-party payroll systems.
  • Partner with HR Operations to ensure employee lifecycle transactions (new hires, promotions, transfers, leaves of absence, terminations, and compensation changes) are accurately reflected in payroll.
  • Develop, document, and maintain payroll policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Respond to employee payroll inquiries, resolve payroll issues professionally and in a timely manner, and coordinate internal and external payroll audits.
  • Monitor changes in payroll legislation and ensure timely implementation of regulatory requirements.
  • Identify opportunities to improve payroll processes through automation, system enhancements, and operational efficiencies.
  • Prepare payroll metrics, reports, and analytics for leadership.
  • Lead payroll-related projects, including system implementations, acquisitions, organizational changes, and process improvement initiatives.
  • Train, mentor, and develop payroll team members while fostering a culture of accuracy, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Perform other duties as required or assigned.

Requirements

  • 7 or more years of progressive payroll experience, including payroll leadership responsibilities.
  • Experience processing payroll for multi-state and/or multinational organizations.
  • Hands-on experience with ADP Workforce Now (WFN).
  • Experience managing payroll tax compliance, reconciliations, and year-end payroll activities.
  • Experience working with third-party international payroll providers.
  • Experience partnering with HR Operations, Finance, Internal Audit, Tax, Accounting, Benefits, and external payroll providers.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of payroll compliance and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience supporting audits and implementing payroll process improvements.
  • Advanced knowledge of payroll administration and payroll compliance.
  • Extensive experience managing payroll through ADP Workforce Now (WFN) or comparable HRIS/payroll solutions.
  • Experience coordinating payroll across multiple countries and working with global payroll providers.
  • Knowledge of payroll taxation, wage and hour regulations, and employment compliance.
  • Experience with payroll accounting, reconciliations, and general ledger processes.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including PivotTables, lookup functions, formulas, and data analysis.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to interpret payroll legislation and implement regulatory changes.
  • Excellent project management and process improvement capabilities.
  • Strong attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Experience documenting and improving payroll processes and internal controls.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Human Resources, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or Global Payroll Management certification.
  • ADP Workforce Now training or certification.
  • Experience supporting payroll operations in multiple countries, including Europe and Asia-Pacific.
  • Experience within a technology, software, or high-growth organization.
  • Experience with payroll system implementations, integrations, or upgrades.
  • Experience managing equity compensation or employee stock programs.
  • Experience supporting retirement plan administration and payroll deductions.
  • Familiarity with HRIS integrations, APIs, and payroll reporting tools.
  • Experience managing global payroll projects and vendor relationships.
  • Experience working in a SOX-compliant or publicly traded company environment.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary range: $115,00-$125,000 annually.
  • Total compensation package may include annual performance bonus, ESPP, enhanced time off packages, and benefits.

  • Fully remote within the U.S. (Los Angeles or Las Vegas preferred.)
  • Travel requirements: Up to 10%
