Overview

This role involves performing payroll and labor accounting duties by applying payroll accounting principles. The position requires processing various types of leave payments, managing payroll corrections, and handling union dues and arrears deductions. It also includes managing billings for vacation liabilities, verifying and inputting payroll data, and assisting employees with payroll-related inquiries.

Responsibilities

  • Process vacation, sick/personal business leave, and special payments such as cash equivalent awards, patent awards, union grievance payments, and lump sums
  • Report pay corrections and assess late requests for leave of absence payments
  • Set up initial union dues and arrears deductions
  • Input employees’ Family Medical Leave (FML) hours into labor data management systems as needed
  • Manage billings for vacation liabilities related to transfers within or between business units
  • Review, verify, and input online checks in accordance with company policies and state laws
  • Submit requests and coordinate on-site printing and distribution of online checks
  • Verify and enter check distribution information
  • Counsel and assist employees regarding payroll, payroll accounting activities, time entry inputs, proper labor recording, and labor input policies
  • Analyze and reconcile payroll and labor accounting data, resolving discrepancies and determining corrective actions
  • Prepare and reconcile reports for suspense, exceptions, and discrepancies
  • Monitor and assist with correction of exception reports
  • Correct suspense to valid accounts or cost element/WBS element
  • Maintain financial tables
  • Prepare and reconcile payroll general ledger accounts and employee sick/personal business leave accrual journals
  • Identify reconciliation of billable and non-billable items as applicable
  • Identify payroll report differences between billed items and items to be journaled
  • Assemble payroll or labor cost and other accounting data to prepare and process journals at month end, investigating errors for corrective action
  • Compute amounts of miscellaneous accruals and write-offs

Requirements

  • Experience with payroll
  • Experience with Microsoft Office
  • Ability to use Excel and general computer skills
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize work in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work in a virtual team environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
  • Experience with reconciliation such as bank, payroll, or labor

Work Arrangement

  • Full-time remote telework position
  • Employee will work remotely full time at a location other than a designated office or job site
  • Occasional travel to an office for periodic meetings may be required
