Overview
A reputable non-profit organization dedicated to supporting children and families is seeking a Payroll Specialist to manage payroll operations for approximately 400 employees. This role involves payroll processing, billing, reconciliations, and preparation of monthly journal entries, while ensuring compliance with payroll regulations and organizational policies.
Responsibilities
- Process payroll accurately and on time for all employees
- Manage billing activities related to payroll
- Reconcile payroll accounts and prepare monthly journal entries
- Serve as a point of contact for payroll-related inquiries from various departments
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of payroll laws, tax regulations, and best practices
- Collaborate with multiple departments to ensure accurate record-keeping and reporting
- Utilize UKG Pro or similar payroll management systems to streamline processes
- Maintain confidentiality of sensitive payroll information
- Support continuous improvement initiatives within the payroll function
Requirements
- Associate degree in Accounting or related field preferred; extensive payroll experience may substitute for formal education
- Minimum of three years of payroll experience required; five years of payroll experience may substitute for degree
- Experience with UKG Pro/Workforce Management or similar payroll software preferred
- Proficiency in accounting software, spreadsheets, and word processing tools
- Strong understanding of payroll practices, bookkeeping, and compliance regulations
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently while maintaining a courteous and helpful attitude
- Valid Illinois Driver’s License preferred but not mandatory
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in reconciliation and financial reporting
- Knowledge of regulatory compliance related to payroll
- Strong data entry skills
