Overview
The organization is seeking a detail-oriented Payroll Specialist to manage payroll processing accurately and efficiently, ensuring timely employee payments while maintaining compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. This role serves as a primary contact for payroll-related questions from employees and management.
Responsibilities
- Process payroll on one or more schedules, including weekly, biweekly, semi-monthly, or monthly.
- Review and audit payroll data (timecards, earnings, deductions, and taxes) to ensure accuracy.
- Maintain comprehensive employee payroll records and ensure data integrity within payroll systems.
- Process new hires, terminations, status changes, and compensation updates so payroll records reflect current information.
- Administer wage garnishments, levies, child support orders, and other applicable deductions.
- Reconcile payroll reports and prepare journal entries.
- Assist with payroll tax filings, including year-end activities such as W-2 processing.
- Respond to employee inquiries related to pay, taxes, and deductions.
- Support audit procedures and collaborate with Human Resources and Finance to ensure smooth payroll operations.
- Identify opportunities to improve payroll processes for greater efficiency and accuracy.
Requirements
- At least three (3) years of payroll processing experience.
- Strong understanding of payroll laws, tax regulations, and compliance standards.
- Preferred experience: multi-state payroll.
- Experience handling garnishments, employee benefits deductions, and payroll taxes.
- Proficiency with payroll software, such as ADP, Paycom, UKG, Workday, or Ceridian.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel.
- Strong problem-solving skills, meticulous attention to detail, and excellent communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) certification.
