Overview

This is a fully remote Payroll Specialist II role.

The organization supports workforce solutions across multiple regions, including the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico, helping manage employment and workforce needs for businesses and communities.

As a Payroll Specialist II, you will process comprehensive payroll cycles across multiple systems and jurisdictions—including all 50 US states, Canada, and Puerto Rico—ensuring payroll accuracy, timeliness, and compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Review and correct payroll records to maintain accurate master data
  • Process full-cycle payroll for various pay schedules and formats
  • Manage and rectify transaction and system errors
  • Ensure timely processing of payroll transactions, including garnishment validations
  • Complete weekly payroll close procedures and communications
  • Reconcile and process ACH and returned checks for payroll and garnishments
  • Monitor payroll automation logs to troubleshoot delays and bottlenecks
  • Provide support and training on payroll-related questions via service ticketing
  • Collaborate with Operations and Accounting on payroll issues
  • Research and correct employee payroll tax setups across multiple states and provinces
  • Address payroll issues identified from operational audits
  • Recommend and support continuous payroll process improvements
  • Review and maintain accrual plans and adjustments
  • Calculate gross-up for bonuses and earnings adjustments
  • Prepare payroll data and ad hoc reports for various teams
  • Maintain and update standard operating procedures

Requirements

  • High school diploma with 3+ years of multi-state payroll administration experience
  • Advanced Excel skills; proficiency in Microsoft Word and Outlook
  • Strong analytical abilities to research and communicate payroll issues
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills
  • Ability to collaborate across all organizational levels and external agencies
  • Knowledge of payroll impacts on general ledger accounts
  • Understanding of federal wage and hour laws, payroll practices, and controls
  • Experience in a remote, team-oriented environment
  • Ability to manage workload under tight deadlines while maintaining confidentiality
  • Experience handling high-volume payroll operations

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary range: $25.00 to $30.00 per hour, depending on experience and location
