Overview
This role involves supporting the payroll operations for a global packaging solutions company with diversified operations in over 34 countries. The Payroll Specialist 2 will be responsible for processing hourly and salaried payrolls for the organization's US and Canadian operations. This position is part of a growing services organization and offers opportunities for career growth within payroll and broader operational functions.
Responsibilities
- Process payrolls accurately and on time for multiple companies, states, and pay cycles.
- Participate in process improvement projects, focusing on optimizing Workday payroll processes to reduce manual tasks.
- Investigate root causes of payroll errors and implement corrective and preventative actions.
- Conduct proactive audits to ensure data accuracy and compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) controls; initiate corrective actions for system errors.
- Manage distribution of confidential payroll information to auditors, corporate teams, and external parties as needed.
- Research and interpret federal and state payroll regulations for the U.S. and Canada.
- Resolve payroll issues by balancing employee needs with organizational cost and compliance requirements.
- Handle garnishment documents and manage employee case resolutions.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree preferred, ideally in business administration, accounting, finance, or human resources.
- 2-3 years of payroll processing experience managing payrolls for 2,000+ employees.
- Strong technical aptitude with the ability to understand multiple disciplines and technologies.
- Proficient payroll auditing skills.
- Strong analytical abilities and interpersonal skills.
- Experience with Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel and Teams.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Effective written and oral communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- 5-7 years of payroll processing experience managing payrolls for 5,000+ employees.
- Experience with Workday payroll processing.
- Experience working in a fast-paced public company environment.
- Experience with UKG payroll systems.
- Preferred certifications: Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) or Certified Payroll Professional (CPP).

- Salary range: $63,840 - $71,820 for Payroll Specialist II.
