Overview

A Payroll Specialist position is available in Monterey Park, CA, requiring 5 or more years of combined payroll experience within California and multi-state environments, including both exempt and non-exempt employees.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor timesheet submission and approval processes in Vision Software on a bi-weekly basis.
  • Assist employees and managers with questions regarding timesheets and payroll matters, providing prompt and excellent customer service.
  • Complete quality control for timesheets and post bi-weekly timesheets.
  • Convert and import timesheet data from Vision Software to Paycom bi-weekly.
  • Accurately calculate final termination pay, disability and leave of absence pay, and pro-rated benefits as necessary for bi-weekly payroll.
  • Prepare and enter data sets into the HRIS system in preparation for payroll.
  • Provide timely and accurate processing of bi-weekly, multi-state payroll in Paycom.
  • Review payroll reports to ensure accuracy.
  • Reconcile PTO and holiday hours for all employees after each payroll posting for both Vision Software and Paycom.
  • Create and produce various Paycom reports, analyzing and checking for outliers.
  • Provide payroll certifications as requested.
  • Prepare employee verification of employment forms for various agencies.
  • Continuously seek ways to improve payroll processing by making recommendations and implementing ideas.
  • Maintain the highest level of confidentiality of sensitive information and secure all appropriate documentation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High attention to detail, strong analytical thinking, and excellent organizational skills.
  • Proficiency with Excel and HRIS system navigation.
  • University or college degree in accounting, business, finance, or a related field.
  • Understanding of payroll concepts including gross to net calculations, pre-tax benefits, supplemental wages/tax, disposable earnings, and local, state, and federal wage and tax laws, as well as labor laws.
  • Minimum of 5 years recent payroll processing experience strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of general ledger coding concepts at company, profit center, and account number levels.
  • Prior experience with Paycom payroll system strongly preferred.
  • Experience processing multi-state payroll preferred.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

  • Work environment may include exposure to moving mechanical parts, outside weather conditions, noise, dust, gas or fumes, extremes in temperature or humidity, and potential work at heights.
  • Physical activities include intermittent sitting, walking, standing, bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, twisting, stooping, crawling, and lifting light equipment up to 20 pounds.
  • Must be alert to equipment in the field and occasional need to work near hazardous equipment and machinery.
