Overview

A growing organization is seeking a Staff Accountant to manage end-to-end payroll operations for a multi-state and global employee population. This role is part of the Finance & Accounting team and requires a detail-oriented payroll professional to execute bi-weekly and monthly payroll cycles accurately, maintain accounting precision through timely journal entries and reconciliations, and collaborate cross-functionally with Finance and HR.

Responsibilities

Payroll Processing

  • Process bi-weekly payroll for multi-state employees and monthly payroll for global employees, including pay calculations, validations, audits, and finalization
  • Ensure payroll accuracy for earnings, deductions, garnishments, taxes, retroactive adjustments, leave pay, and off-cycle payments
  • Support year-end activities such as W-2 preparation, audits, and payroll calendar planning

Accounting & Reconciliation

  • Post payroll-related journal entries to the General Ledger and perform payroll reconciliations, resolving variances promptly
  • Collaborate with Finance on payroll reporting and balancing
  • Review, code, and approve employee expense reports and corporate card transactions; post related journal entries and perform reconciliations

Reporting & Systems

  • Develop and improve payroll reports and dashboards to support operational needs, trend analysis, and leadership requests
  • Assist with system enhancements, testing, and implementations, including upgrades, configuration changes, process documentation, and user support

Process & Controls

  • Maintain documentation, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and internal controls aligned with company policy and audit requirements
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to streamline payroll workflows, strengthen controls, and enhance the employee experience
  • Handle ad hoc projects and requests as assigned

Requirements

  • 3–5 years of hands-on payroll processing experience, including bi-weekly payroll cycles
  • Experience managing multi-state payroll with the ability to research and apply changing payroll laws and regulations
  • Proficiency with ADP Workforce Now
  • Strong Excel skills, including lookups, pivot tables, and data validation
  • High attention to detail, strong ownership, and commitment to accuracy and confidentiality
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and meet payroll cutoff deadlines
  • Effective communication skills to explain payroll topics clearly to non-payroll stakeholders
  • Continuous improvement mindset and comfort learning new tools and processes

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with ERP systems, preferably NetSuite
  • Experience with expense management software such as Navan, Expensify, or Brex

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary range: $100,000 to $140,000 annually
