Overview
This role involves managing payroll and financial systems to ensure accurate payroll and 1099 processing, as well as compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations. The Payroll and Accounting Tax Analyst maintains payroll integrity, resolves tax discrepancies, supports audits and reporting, and identifies process improvements to enhance operational efficiency.
Responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end payroll tax operations ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance across multiple jurisdictions.
- Prepare, file, and monitor payroll tax returns; manage responses to agency inquiries, notices, and audits.
- Serve as primary liaison with federal, state, and local tax authorities to resolve compliance issues.
- Support internal and external audits by compiling documentation, reconciling variances, and implementing action plans.
- Develop and maintain payroll tax policies, procedures, and controls to mitigate risk.
- Monitor legislative and regulatory changes affecting payroll taxation; advise leadership on impacts and recommend strategies.
- Train and mentor payroll staff on tax compliance, system functionality, and best practices.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to streamline processes and improve payroll tax accuracy.
- Generate detailed payroll tax reports and analytics to support financial planning and executive decision-making.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives using technology and automation to increase efficiency.
- Collect, validate, and reconcile vendor tax information (W-9s, TINs, payment data) for proper classification and reporting.
- Prepare and electronically file 1099 returns with IRS and state agencies; research and resolve IRS B-Notices, penalty notices, and vendor inquiries.
- Process payroll and tax analytical reports for all requests, including quarterly and year-end tax reconciliations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree.
- 3-5 years of payroll tax experience.
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC).
- Multi-state payroll tax experience.
- Expertise in FLSA, IRS, and state regulations.
- Advanced Excel and data analysis skills.
- Familiarity with tax reporting tools and automated payroll/accounting systems.
- Experience with Workday and/or ADP.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively across multifunctional teams.

Work Schedule
- 8-hour shift, morning to afternoon.
