Overview

A growing Payroll and HR Technology Consulting team is seeking a Payroll Tax Compliance Specialist to join their team. This role involves supporting clients with payroll tax compliance, payroll and HRIS technology services, and related payroll administration tasks. The position can be fully remote or hybrid for candidates located near Norwalk, CT.

Responsibilities

  • Set up Department of Labor and Department of Revenue tax identification numbers across various states and municipalities
  • Assist with tax audits, reconciliations, and other tax-related projects
  • Provide ongoing tax maintenance services including SUI rate updates, tax agency notice resolution, vendor system updates, documentation, and state login templates
  • Manage multiple client needs and deadlines effectively
  • Offer guidance on the correct application of state and federal payroll tax regulations

Requirements

  • Experience with various Payroll and HRIS systems preferred
  • Strong knowledge of payroll taxes, quarterly and annual reconciliations, and ability to troubleshoot and identify root causes of issues
  • Experience researching and resolving tax agency notices
  • Familiarity with setting up state income, state unemployment, and local jurisdiction payroll profiles
  • Solid understanding of payroll tax laws and regulations
  • Ability to provide payroll tax compliance assistance and best practices
  • Strong client relationship skills in a customer-centric environment
  • Ability to work independently or collaboratively in a virtual team setting
  • Professional and effective communication skills
  • Flexible work schedule to meet client demands
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including formulas, Pivot Tables, and VLOOKUP

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in payroll tax compliance roles
  • Experience with multi-jurisdictional payroll services and payroll technology implementations
