Overview

A rapidly growing commerce enablement organization is seeking a Payroll & Tax Specialist to support payroll operations within the People team. This role focuses on executing and iterating payroll processes to drive automation, standardization, and centralization of HR systems and procedures.

This position is open to applicants located in or willing to relocate to AL, AZ, CA, CO, CT, DE, FL, GA, IL, IN, IA, KY, LA, ME, MD, MA, MI, MS, NE, NV, NJ, NY, NC, OH, OR, PA, SC, TN, TX, UT, VA, WA, WV.

Responsibilities

  • Execute payroll operations including collection, calculation, and entry of payroll data
  • Address employee inquiries related to pay and time and attendance
  • Update payroll records and prepare payroll reports
  • Develop and document scalable payroll processes and employee-facing guidelines
  • Collaborate with Accounting to maintain accurate job costing and general ledger records
  • Produce and analyze employee data reports
  • Manage payroll tax accounts, filings, and new account openings
  • Balance taxes between payroll systems and file quarterly tax returns
  • Validate and reconcile tax rates, including multi-state tax compliance
  • Produce and analyze company tax reports
  • Maintain confidentiality and integrity of HR records, forms, files, and policies
  • Stay current on payroll trends, best practices, and regulatory changes
  • Assist employees with payroll-related questions, ensuring excellent customer service
  • Support employee onboarding and offboarding processes

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of progressive payroll experience in a fast-paced, rapidly growing environment
  • Experience with Workday and ADP Smart Compliance payroll systems
  • Strong knowledge of payroll tax and compliance requirements
  • Functional knowledge of federal and state employment laws
  • Excellent time management, prioritization, and communication skills
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and act with integrity
  • Strong business acumen and ability to collaborate with HR colleagues and internal clients
  • Highly detail-oriented and organized
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in human resources, business, or related field
  • Experience in People Operations within the technology industry, including exposure to M&A integrations
  • Experience working in a rapidly scaling startup
  • Working knowledge of employment laws and compliance across all U.S. states
