Overview

This role involves applying generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) to analyze financial information, reconcile financial statements, prepare journal entries, assist in budget development, and generate standard accounting and financial reports for management.

Responsibilities

  • Compile and analyze financial data for entry into financial statements and accounting reports.
  • Prepare and review journal entries for the general ledger by verifying calculations and reconciling figures.
  • Review budgets, revenue, expenses, payroll entries, invoices, and other accounting documents; research and resolve discrepancies.
  • Perform bank reconciliations, wire transfers, mortgage payments, and distributions ensuring accuracy.
  • Maintain and coordinate accounting control procedures by analyzing revenue and expenditure trends and recommending budget levels.
  • Analyze accounting and financial resources related to property acquisitions, dispositions, closings, budgets, and expenditures for various funding sources.
  • Serve as liaison to internal and external auditors by providing explanations, research data, and information to complete audits timely.
  • Communicate with property managers to assist with pre-close and close activities, answer questions, and support timely accounting processes.
  • Complete various financial, accounting, administrative reports and analyses as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of 3 years relevant experience in accounting or financial settings demonstrating application of GAAP.
  • Proven ability to analyze financial data and prepare reports in accordance with accounting, finance, budgeting, and cost control principles.
  • Proactive, self-directed, highly motivated with strong time management skills to handle multiple projects simultaneously.

Specialized Skills

  • Proficiency with internet, word processing, spreadsheet, and database management software.
  • Strong analytical skills and familiarity with financial and property management systems such as Yardi or One Site.
  • Comprehensive understanding of accounting and finance best practices, laws, and regulations.

Travel and Physical Demands

  • Work is performed in an office or remote environment.
  • Occasional travel may be required for business meetings or training.
  • Job may require long periods of sitting.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Salary range: $60,000 - $70,000, determined by factors including experience, skills, and location.
