Overview

This position is for a Manager to join the Real Estate team in the Client Accounting Advisory practice. The organization is a hybrid firm; most professionals are located within a commutable distance to an office. This role is considered remote, meaning job duties do not require performance within proximity of an office location. However, remote employees may be required to be present at an office with scheduled notice for client work, team meetings, or trainings.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee the Real Estate accounting team, responsible for client execution and timely delivery of client work products by team members.
  • Independently perform and assist with complex accounting services for clients.
  • Lead global teams with client work and developing skills; provide guidance and training on accounting principles and calculations.
  • Handle inquiries from clients and/or internal stakeholders; understand industry and client challenges to provide solutions and improve business and client deliverables.
  • Identify cross-selling opportunities to provide value to clients.
  • Lead complex client engagements for general contractors, specialty trade contractors, and construction management firms—ensuring exceptional client service and engagement profitability.
  • Advise clients on construction-specific accounting matters, including:
    • Revenue recognition
    • Work-in-process (WIP) reporting
    • Job costing
    • Change orders
    • Retainage
    • Claims
    • Project forecasting
  • Review and analyze WIP schedules, backlog reports, gross profit fade/gain analyses, and project performance metrics to identify trends, risks, and opportunities.
  • Provide guidance on cash flow management, working capital optimization, equipment utilization, and overhead allocation methodologies.
  • Mentor and develop managers and staff in construction accounting methodologies, industry best practices, and client relationship management.
  • Complete duties associated with managing teams, ensuring goals and benchmarks are met (e.g., delivering monthly financials, developing skills for career growth, working within budget and time parameters).
  • Manage client deliverables and relationships, including proactive communications, exceeding client expectations, completing client billings timely, and assisting with managing accounts receivable.
  • Develop expertise in the technology necessary for performance execution; ensure quality control procedures are executed and adhered to by team members.
  • Identify process improvement opportunities for client work and/or practice operations.
  • Participate in mentoring, recruiting, retention, and team-building activities.
  • Conduct work professionally and with respect for others.
  • Follow regulations and professional ethics of the AICPA and the state society.
  • Maintain compliance with firmwide and local office policies and procedures.
  • Proactively develop relationships and provide proactive communications with clients, staff, and internal stakeholders.
  • Respond timely and accurately to internal team and client requests.
  • Solicit internal experts across the organization to assist in providing solutions for client challenges.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • 3+ years of Real Estate industry experience.
  • Proven ability to drive and lead corporate accounting processes and procedures such as cash management, AR/AP, month end close, payroll and benefits.
  • Strong GAAP experience, including hands-on experience performing controllership functions related to consolidations, GL close, and financial reporting.
  • Strong Real Estate experience.
  • Strong communication, documentation, and presentation skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Visio, Project).
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities and meet critical deadlines.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail; action-oriented (self-starter, team player, detail-oriented).
  • Significant knowledge of accounting and finance processes and functions, including strong understanding of financial statement preparation and analysis.

Preferred Qualifications

  • MBA and/or CPA license.
  • QuickBooks, NetSuite, Yardi, and Sage Intacct experience.
