Overview
An opportunity is available for a Manager to join the Real Estate team in the Client Accounting Advisory practice.
This role is remote (not required to perform job duties within proximity of an office). Remote employees may be required to be present at an office with scheduled notice for client work, team meetings, or trainings.
Responsibilities
- Lead and oversee the Real Estate accounting team, responsible for client execution and timely delivery of client work product by team members.
- Independently perform and assist with complex accounting services for clients.
- Lead a global team supporting client work and developing skills through guidance and training on accounting principles and calculations.
- Handle inquiries from clients and/or internal stakeholders; understand industry and client challenges to provide solutions and improvements to business and client deliverables, including cross-selling opportunities to provide value.
- Lead complex client engagements for general contractors, specialty trade contractors, and construction management firms, ensuring exceptional client service and engagement profitability.
- Advise clients on construction-specific accounting matters, including:
- Revenue recognition
- Work-in-process (WIP) reporting
- Job costing
- Change orders
- Retainage
- Claims
- Project forecasting
- Review and analyze WIP schedules, backlog reports, gross profit fade/gain analyses, and project performance metrics to identify trends, risks, and opportunities.
- Provide guidance on cash flow management, working capital optimization, equipment utilization, and overhead allocation methodologies.
- Mentor and develop managers and staff in construction accounting methodologies, industry best practices, and client relationship management.
- Timely complete duties associated with managing teams, ensuring team goals and benchmarks are met for performance and execution of client work (e.g., delivering monthly financials, developing skills for career growth, and working within budget and time parameters).
- Complete duties associated with managing clients and developing and maintaining client relationships, including proactive communications, exceeding clients’ expectations, timely completion of client billings, and assistance with managing accounts receivable.
- Develop expertise in the technology necessary for performance execution; ensure quality control procedures are executed and adhered to by all team members.
- Identify areas for process improvement for client work and/or practice operations.
- Participate in mentoring, recruiting, retention, and team-building activities.
- Conduct oneself professionally and always show respect to others.
- Follow regulations and professional ethics of the AICPA and the state society.
- Maintain appropriate compliance with firm-wide and local office policies and procedures.
- Proactively develop relationships and maintain proactive communications with clients, staff, and internal stakeholders.
- Respond timely and accurately to internal team and client requests.
- Solicit internal experts from across the organization to assist in providing solutions for client challenges.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree required; MBA and/or CPA license a plus.
- 3+ years of Real Estate industry experience.
- Proven ability to drive and lead corporate accounting processes and procedures such as cash management, AR/AP, month end close, payroll and benefits.
- Strong GAAP experience; hands-on experience performing controllership functions related to consolidations, GL close, and financial reporting.
- Strong Real Estate experience.
- Strong communication, documentation, and presentation skills.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills; proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Visio, Project).
- QuickBooks, NetSuite, Yardi, and Sage Intacct experience preferred.
- Strong project and time management skills.
- Accuracy and attention to detail; action-oriented (self-starter, team player, detail-oriented).
- Must be able to handle multiple priorities and effectively meet critical deadlines.
- Significant knowledge of accounting and finance processes and functions, including strong understanding of financial statement preparation and analysis.
