Overview
A financial services organization is seeking a Reinsurance Accountant with expertise in complex reinsurance initiatives, including impact analysis, process flows, and assumed and ceded reinsurance strategies. This role involves implementation, testing, and providing subject matter expertise to support enterprise reinsurance data strategy.
Responsibilities
- Perform daily reinsurance accounting activities such as transaction recording, reconciliation, and ledger maintenance.
- Interpret and operationalize complex reinsurance contracts in compliance with applicable accounting standards.
- Establish and maintain internal policies and procedures for reinsurance financial operations.
- Ensure timely issuance of billing statements and collections from reinsurers.
- Analyze financial data to identify trends and variances; advise leadership on potential improvements.
- Conduct routine account reconciliations and resolve discrepancies.
- Maintain compliance with accounting standards, regulatory requirements, and internal controls.
- Prepare documentation and support for internal and external audits.
- Utilize business process design tools (process maps, flow charts) to clarify reinsurance issues and requirements for stakeholders.
- Support an agile project management framework to prioritize and manage projects with cross-functional teams.
- Monitor client accounts and statistics using internal reports; perform data analysis and provide reports to stakeholders.
- Prepare financial reporting in accordance with US GAAP, US STAT, Bermuda STAT, Schedule S, and other relevant standards.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in reinsurance accounting, claims, and reporting within the insurance industry, preferably Life and Annuities.
- Strong technical knowledge of reinsurance arrangements, accounting principles, and regulatory frameworks.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and financial systems; experience with reinsurance tools such as RMS or AIR is a plus.
- Excellent analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage complex datasets.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills for collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to work effectively in a dynamic, deadline-driven environment.
- Proactive in seeking advice on new issues and suggesting solutions.
Preferred Qualifications
- CPA, ALMI, FMLI, or equivalent industry certification.
- Experience with Business Objects, Analysis for Office, Power BI, and Tableau.

Compensation & Benefits
- Base salary range: $80,000 - $125,000, varying by skills, experience, and location.
- Additional compensation includes base salary increases, spot bonuses, and short-term incentive opportunities based on performance and role.

Location & Work Schedule
- This position offers a flexible work schedule with options for fully remote or hybrid work.
- Hybrid work is expected for employees located near offices in Charlotte, NC; New York, NY; or Syracuse, NY, with 2–3 days on-site per week.
- Primary location options include Syracuse, NY; New York, NY; Charlotte, NC; or remote within the United States.
